ACRE-approved training is offered by educators, who are current ACRE organizational members. Their curriculum has gone through a rigorous curriculum review process. ACRE training is available in several formats: Face-to-face, online, and hybrid (combination of in person & online).

Name or Title of ACRE Training:  Indiana Employment Specialist Training

Description of ACRE Training Program: Online/in-person Employment Specialist Training provides basic skills training to service providers who have worked as employment specialists for less than one year. Attendees learn best practices in Discovery, job and career development, employment support planning, worksite analysis, extended services, and emerging industry trends.

Training is a total of 40 hours over 8-week period and is offered quarterly.  The training includes access to ten interactive online modules as well as two face-to-face, in-person meetings for orientation and further instruction. Individuals who attend both meetings and successfully complete all online assignments receive a competency-based certificate from Indiana University. CEUs are available and the training is approved by the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE).

Name or Title of ACRE Training: Customized Employment

Description of ACRE Training Program: This course is comprised of three areas of training: 1) Discovery, 2) Job Development, and 3) Job Coaching/ Systematic Instruction. The training focuses on people who have significant impact of intellectual and developmental disabilities and have experienced challenges regarding services that would assist them to become successfully employed.  Each area of training involves three days of classroom style training for a total of nine days of training.  Each component of the training has activities and performance requirements that must be met.

Description of ACRE Training Program:  The training is a combination of in-person and online training for individuals who are providing job development and job supports to individuals with disabilities. 

There are 2 online sections; Laws & History, and Benefits and 6 in person training days. 

The training is interactive and covers a variety of topics including; learning about the job seeker, networking, talking to employers, job development, job coaching, teaching job skills through systematic instruction, and behavioral supports.  The training uses an adult learning approach where participants have the opportunity to learn new skills, practice those skills through fieldwork and receive feedback.
